WHEREAS:

The Arts, tourism, and local small businesses are heavily intertwined, as non-resident arts and culture event attendees spend an average of $42.53 on meals, souvenirs, ground transportation, and other expenses for each arts and culture event they attend in Cambridge, excluding the price of admission; and

 

 

WHEREAS:

During the FY20 budget hearings, the City Council requested that the Cambridge Office of Tourism, the Cambridge Arts Council, and the Economic Development Division of the Community Development Department meet regularly to coordinate efforts to strengthen the local small business community and the Arts through tourism; and

 

 

WHEREAS:

Since then, these entities have been meeting regularly, with a representative from the City Manager’s Office in attendance; and

 

 

WHEREAS:

Having an update on the work that has been done at these meetings would grant meaningful insight during the FY21 budget process; now therefore be it

 

 

ORDERED:

That the City Manager be and is hereby requested to report back to the City Council on the work that has been done during these meetings prior to the FY21 budget hearings.
