WHEREAS:

The City of Cambridge held the first ever celebration of Diwali on Sunday,
October 30, 2017, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM in the Citywide Senior Center; and

 

 

WHEREAS:

Diwali, the festival of lights, denotes the triumph of light over darkness, of good over evil, of hope over despair and rejuvenation over death; and

 

 

WHEREAS:

Although Diwali is celebrated primarily in South East Asia, its message and themes are universal in their outlook; and

 

 

WHEREAS:

The first ever celebration of Diwali is evidence of the City’s long tradition of Diversity and inclusiveness, it is also an acknowledgment of and appreciation of the large and dynamic South East Asian Community; and

 

 

WHEREAS:

The success of the event can be attributed to uplifting performances by: Brendan Gibson, Seth Heidkamp, Srikant Sarangi, Tim Boutelle, Raagini Jaawa of Boston-based band Charles Delta; Jada Willard; Students, Adrita Mukherji, Meghana Sen, Janya Utkarsh, from the LeanQuest Academy of Music under the guidance of Shuchita Rao; Michael Singh, Sapan Modi; Monishita Ray; Noura Khan; Sapna Govindan; Taylor Maurand; Erica Hartnett; Jess Kanwal; and Tania Ahmed and Nirmala Lynch from the Triveni School of Dance; and

 

 

WHEREAS:

RESOLVED:

That the City Council go on record extending its appreciation to all the performers and volunteers who made the city’s first ever celebration of Diwali successful; and be it further

 

 

RESOLVED:

That the City Clerk be and is hereby requested to forward a suitably engrossed copy of this resolution to all Diwali volunteers on behalf the entire City Council.
