WHEREAS:

Members of Cambridge’s small business and nonprofit community have expressed an interest in participating in Cambridge’s curbside composting program to reduce their costs associated with the disposal of solid waste and divert compostable scraps from landfills; and

 

 

WHEREAS:

Expanding curbside composting programs to small businesses and nonprofits in the City means that Cambridge can incentivize green business practices, a benefit to both the environment and our partners in the Cambridge business and nonprofit community; now therefore be it

 

 

ORDERED:

That the City Manager be and hereby is requested to direct the Recycling Division of the Department of Public Works to study the feasibility of expanding the curbside composting program to small businesses and nonprofits in the City by the end of 2019, and is encouraged to consider business districts with high concentration of locally owned shops for any pilot programs, and wherever the economic justice impact will be greatest.
